Austria remains firmly under the spell of persistent fog and low clouds, with large parts of the country waking up to thick mist on Thursday. The most stubborn fog stretches across low-lying areas in the north and east, as well as inner‑alpine basins and valleys. In the eastern lowlands, the fog is especially tenacious, barely lifting throughout the day.

Outside the fog zones, denser cloud bands move in from the west, particularly affecting northern and eastern regions. A few isolated raindrops may fall from these clouds, though most areas are expected to stay dry. Winds remain weak overall.

Morning temperatures range from minus 7 to plus 1 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs reach between minus 1 and plus 9 degrees. The coldest conditions are found in the east, with the warmest readings in Vorarlberg and higher elevations.

Fog and Low Clouds Persist on Friday

High pressure brings mostly sunny conditions on Friday—at least for those above the fog line. In inner‑alpine basins, valleys, and many lowland regions, fog and low stratus clouds linger throughout the day. Some areas may experience light drizzle from the moist layer. Winds blow weakly to moderately from varying directions.

Early temperatures lie between minus 6 and plus 2 degrees, with daytime highs ranging from minus 1 to plus 11 degrees. The warmest spots are again in the west and at mid‑elevation levels.

Saturday Outlook: Gray in the East, Brighter in the West

The eastern half of Austria begins Saturday under widespread fog and low clouds, especially persistent in the southeast. Further north, fog patches gradually thin as the day progresses. Western Austria sees more cloud cover from early morning, but occasional sunny breaks are expected.

Across the country, conditions remain mostly dry, though a few isolated raindrops or snowflakes cannot be ruled out. Winds blow weakly to moderately, becoming brisk from the east in the northeast.

Morning temperatures range from minus 6 to plus 2 degrees. Daytime highs vary from around 1 degree in areas stuck under continuous gray skies to about 9 degrees in the west and at mid‑altitudes.
